Solihull School has been named the best golf team in the region following a national event which took place at St Andrew’s Torrance and Eden courses over the weekend.

Taking 11th place overall, Solihull achieved the lowest score of any Midland team competing in the Independent School Golf Association’s national finals and as such were presented with a coveted glass trophy.

Tom Brewer, James Scagell and Jacob Arnold scored a total of 314 – just 17 points behind the overall winners.

The team was accompanied by Solihull teacher Stuart Hart. He said: “Finishing mid-table is a great result for the Solihull team, especially when you consider that many of the teams they were competing against have handicaps of scratch or one.

“Tom had a particularly good weekend, finishing 11th out of 60 boys, scoring just 4 points less than the front runner on the Eden course and leaving with a gold medal for finishing in the top 20.

“Jacob and James received silver medals for their individual performances and all three boys should be extremely proud.”

This year’s result echoes the success of previous years as the school’s Senior Golf Squad has succeeded in becoming regional champions in the IGSA competition every year since 2011.
