Taking place at 3pm on Sunday November 22, the auction will see 21 unique prints (each specially commissioned by George Lucas and signed by renowned artist Ralph McQuarrie) sold off to the highest bidder on behalf of Acorns Children’s Hospice.
Donated anonymously for the auction, each piece features scenes and characters which are instantly recognisable to fans, including Darth Vader, C3PO and an X-wing.
James Hawkesford, managing director at Hawkesford, said: “As estate agents and auctioneers we’re often asked to auction pieces of artwork alongside the properties on our books, but this auction will be among the most unique I’ve ever held.
“Tens of thousands of fans are expected to visit the Comic Con event so I’m confident that we can raise a great amount of money for Acorns – an extremely deserving charity which provides specialist round the clock care for life-limited and life-threatened children.
In the past year the charity has cared for over 760 children and more than 980 families, including those who are bereaved. To continue its care, Acorns must raise more than £9 million every year for its three hospices and relies on fundraising for the majority of this amount.
Sally Insley, community fundraising manager at Acorns, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the donor for making these prints available. The images are out of this world, so this really is a one-off opportunity for one lucky individual.”
An exhibition of the prints will be on display at Comic Con prior to the auction on Sunday November 22 and bids can take place in person at the event, or online at www.acorns.org.uk/starwars.
